Determined to create a bright future for all children and mankind, the members of the Nomura Center for Lifelong Integrated Education have since the founding of the Center in 1962 pushed ahead in earnest and consistent efforts in our search of truth, and before we knew it our efforts and deeds became a history of fifty years.
At a time when the very term "lifelong education" was still very new to us, our Founder Mrs. Yoshiko Nomura was blazing trails across new frontiers. Under her leadership of more than forty years and under the leadership of Director General Mrs. Yumiko Kaneko of about ten years, the Center's activities have at all times involved families, the community and international society.
To celebrate the 50th anniversary of our Center, 390 people came together at the Akebono Room in the Hotel Okura Tokyo on Sunday, March 4. There was a group of special people whom we had come to know in the course of our work and who demonstrated to us over the years their deep understanding and friendship as well as their empathy and support without reservation. Among our overseas guests were representatives from UNESCO, and from other international organizations including the OECD, and ambassadors to Japan from Bulgaria, Timor-Leste and Nepal. Also in attendance were representatives of networks with whom we have maintained relations through our work for many years, members from our overseas branches and distinguished guests from all sectors of society, and leader members of the Nomura Center from every region of Japan. After the conclusion of the smooth proceedings of the anniversary ceremony, guests proceed to Heian Room to enjoy a celebratory reception. Mr. Yukio Watari, deputy chief of the Course on Human Studies, presided at the ceremony and Mrs. Rie Mori, chief of the Kagoshima chapter, served as mistress of ceremonies during the reception.
